When you snake a drain, you’re using a cable with a blade or auger on the end to break up the blockage. It works for simple clogs, but it doesn’t remove buildup from the pipe walls. Grease, soap scum, and mineral deposits stay behind, which means the clog can come back faster.
Hydro jetting uses high-pressure water—usually between 3,000 and 4,000 PSI—to blast away everything inside the pipe. It clears the clog and scrubs the walls clean, which restores full flow and helps prevent future blockages. It’s especially effective for grease buildup, root intrusion, and stubborn clogs that snaking won’t touch. The downside is that it costs more upfront, but it lasts longer and reduces the chance of repeat service calls.
You can, but you’re risking your pipes and probably not fixing the problem. Chemical drain cleaners are one of the top causes of pipe damage we see in Shiloh.
Those chemicals work by creating heat to dissolve the clog. That heat can also weaken pipe seals, corrode metal pipes, and damage older plumbing systems—especially cast iron, which is common in homes built before 1975. If the clog is deep in the line, the chemical can also push it further down, making it harder to reach and more expensive to fix.
Most drain cleaning jobs take between one and three hours depending on the location of the clog, what’s causing it, and how accessible your plumbing is.
A straightforward clog in a kitchen or bathroom drain that’s close to the fixture usually takes about an hour. That includes running the camera, clearing the blockage, and confirming everything is flowing properly. Main sewer line clogs take longer—usually two to three hours—because the line is deeper, the clog is often more stubborn, and we’re dealing with a larger section of pipe.
