What Happens When the Plumbing Is Done Right

You don’t think about your plumbing when it works. That’s the point.

When your shower and tub replacement is complete, the water pressure stays consistent. The temperature doesn’t spike when someone flushes a toilet. Your new vanity doesn’t develop a slow leak that ruins the cabinet six months later.

Most bathroom remodels focus on tile, paint, and fixtures. But if the pipe rerouting services aren’t handled correctly, you’re building on a shaky foundation. We’ve seen gorgeous renovations ruined by plumbing that wasn’t sized right, wasn’t vented properly, or wasn’t installed to code.

You’re investing serious money into this space. The plumbing should support that investment, not undermine it. When we handle your bathroom fixture installation, you get water where you need it, drains that clear fast, and systems that last as long as the tile you picked out.

Tropic, FL Bathroom Plumbing Experts

We've Been Doing This Since 2007

Drain Wizard is a family-owned plumbing company serving Tropic, FL and the surrounding Brevard County area. Carl, the owner, personally oversees every bathroom remodeling plumbing project we take on. He’s a state-certified plumbing contractor with over 40 years of combined experience and 21 years of military service behind him.

That military background shows up in how we work. We show up on time, we communicate clearly, and we don’t leave a job until it’s finished right. Tropic homeowners deal with unique challenges—older homes with galvanized pipes, humidity that accelerates corrosion, and layouts that weren’t designed for modern fixtures. We know what to expect before we open the wall.

You’re not getting a sales pitch or a corporate call center. You’re working with people who’ve been in this community for years and plan to stay here.

How Bathroom Remodeling Plumbing Works

Here's What Happens From Start to Finish

First, we look at your existing plumbing and your remodel plans. If you’re moving a toilet, adding a second sink, or installing a rainfall shower, we need to know if your current pipes can handle it. Sometimes they can. Sometimes they can’t. We’ll tell you either way.

Next, we map out the rough-in work. This is where we reroute supply lines, relocate drains, and make sure everything is vented properly. If your remodel includes moving a vanity or changing the shower location, this step matters more than most people realize. Get it wrong and you’ll deal with slow drains, sewer gas smells, or worse.

Once the rough-in passes inspection, we move to fixture installation. This includes mounting your new toilet, connecting your vanity plumbing, installing your shower valve and trim, and hooking up any additional features like a soaking tub or bidet. We test everything under pressure before we call it done.

Finally, we walk you through the completed work. You’ll know where your shut-off valves are, how to maintain your new fixtures, and what to watch for down the road.

The Plumbing Work That Makes Your Remodel Functional

Every bathroom remodel is different, but the plumbing work usually falls into a few categories. You’re either replacing what’s there, moving it somewhere else, or adding something new. All three require different approaches.

If you’re aging in place, you might want a curbless shower with grab bars and a handheld sprayer. That means adjusting drain placement and possibly adding blocking in the walls. Tropic has a higher-than-average population of retirees, and we’ve done plenty of accessibility upgrades that don’t look institutional.

If you’re dealing with an older home, there’s a good chance your supply lines are undersized or your drain venting doesn’t meet current code. We handle pipe rerouting services that bring everything up to standard without tearing apart more of your house than necessary. Brevard County’s humidity also means we’re careful about materials—certain pipes corrode faster here than they would in drier climates.

Energy efficiency is another consideration. Low-flow toilets, aerated faucets, and thermostatic shower valves can cut your water usage significantly. They also reduce the load on your water heater, which matters if you’re keeping your existing unit.

How long does the plumbing work take during a bathroom remodel?

It depends on what you’re changing. If you’re keeping everything in the same spot and just swapping fixtures, we can usually rough in and finish the plumbing in two to three days.

If you’re relocating a toilet, moving the vanity, or adding a second shower head, expect closer to a week. That includes time for inspections, which are required in Brevard County for any work that involves moving drains or supply lines.

The biggest delays come from unexpected issues—cast iron drains that have corroded through, supply lines that aren’t up to code, or framing that wasn’t done right the first time. We can’t always predict what’s behind the wall, but we can usually tell you within the first hour of demo whether you’re looking at complications.

Yes. Most of our bathroom remodeling plumbing projects involve coordinating with other trades. We’ll work directly with your contractor to make sure rough-in happens when it’s supposed to and that we’re not holding up drywall or tile.

If you’re managing the project yourself, we can also guide you on sequencing. Plumbing rough-in needs to happen after demo and framing but before drywall. Fixture installation comes after tile and paint. Trying to do it out of order creates problems.

We’ve worked with most of the reputable contractors in Tropic and the surrounding Brevard County area. If you don’t have someone lined up yet and need a referral, we can point you toward people we trust.

Moving a toilet is one of the more involved changes you can make. The drain has to slope correctly, the vent has to be sized and placed right, and the floor framing needs to support the new location. It’s doable, but it’s not a small job.

Adding a second sink is usually easier, but it depends on your existing plumbing. If your current drain and supply lines are sized for one sink, we may need to upsize them. We’ll also need to make sure your water heater can keep up with the increased demand, especially if you’re adding a soaking tub or larger shower at the same time.

Both changes require permits and inspections in Tropic, FL. We handle that process as part of the work. You don’t need to deal with the county yourself.

Not necessarily, but it’s worth evaluating. If your water heater is over ten years old, it’s already past the average lifespan. Adding a rainfall shower, a soaking tub, or a second bathroom puts more demand on it.

We’ll look at your current unit’s capacity and recovery rate. If you’re upgrading to fixtures that use more hot water and your heater is borderline, it makes sense to replace it now rather than six months after your remodel is done.

Tankless water heaters are popular in bathroom remodels because they don’t run out of hot water and take up less space. They cost more upfront, but they last longer and can lower your energy bills. We install both tank and tankless units, and we’ll walk you through the pros and cons of each based on your specific situation.

Proper installation is the first line of defense. That means waterproofing the shower pan correctly, sealing penetrations where pipes go through walls, and making sure drain connections are tight and tested under pressure.

We also recommend shutoff valves for every fixture. If your toilet supply line starts leaking, you want to be able to shut it off without killing water to the whole house. Same goes for your vanity and shower.

Florida’s humidity creates additional risk. Condensation on cold water pipes can drip onto drywall and framing, especially if your bathroom isn’t well ventilated. We insulate cold water lines in exterior walls and recommend exhaust fans that actually move enough air to make a difference. Most builder-grade fans don’t.

Regular maintenance helps too. Check under your vanity every few months for signs of moisture. If you see water stains, don’t wait—small leaks turn into big problems fast in Tropic’s climate.

A basic fixture install means we’re swapping what’s already there—new toilet for old toilet, new faucet for old faucet. The plumbing stays in the same place, and we’re just connecting new hardware. That’s straightforward and usually doesn’t require permits.

A full bathroom renovation plumbing job involves moving things, adding things, or changing the layout. That means opening walls, rerouting pipes, possibly relocating drains, and bringing everything up to current code. It requires rough-in work, inspections, and coordination with other trades.

The cost difference is significant. Fixture swaps are measured in hundreds of dollars. Full remodels are measured in thousands. But if your bathroom layout doesn’t work, if your pipes are failing, or if you’re trying to add functionality, a real remodel is the only way to get there. We’ll give you an honest assessment of what you actually need versus what’s nice to have.
