You turn the faucet expecting hot water. When it’s cold, lukewarm, or gone completely, your entire day gets thrown off. No one in your house can shower properly. Dishes pile up. Laundry waits.
A working water heater isn’t a luxury in Canova Beach. It’s essential. And when yours stops doing its job, you need someone who can diagnose the problem fast and fix it right the first time.
That’s where we come in. We handle water heater repair, replacement, and installation across Brevard County. We show up when we say we will. We explain what’s wrong in plain terms. And we give you options that actually make sense for your home and budget.
No runaround. No upselling equipment you don’t need. Just reliable hot water heater service that gets your household back to normal.
Drain Wizard is a family-owned plumbing company serving Canova Beach and the wider Space Coast area. We’ve been in business since 2007, and our team brings over 40 years of combined plumbing experience to every job.
Carl, our owner, started plumbing at 16. He’s personally involved in every project we take on. That’s not marketing talk—it’s how we operate. When you call us, you’re getting someone who knows Florida’s hard water issues, understands how humidity accelerates corrosion, and has replaced hundreds of water heaters in coastal homes just like yours.
We’re fully licensed and insured. We don’t cut corners. And we’re not interested in selling you the most expensive option—we’re interested in solving your problem correctly.
First, we schedule a time that works for you. We show up on time—not in a four-hour window that eats up your whole day.
When we arrive, we assess your current water heater. We check for leaks, test the heating elements or burner, inspect the tank for corrosion, and evaluate how well it’s been maintained. If it’s repairable, we’ll tell you. If it’s on its last legs, we’ll explain why replacement makes more sense than throwing money at temporary fixes.
If you need a new unit, we walk you through your options. Tank or tankless. Gas or electric. Sizing based on how many people live in your home and your actual hot water usage. We explain the upfront costs, the energy savings, and what kind of lifespan you can expect.
Once you decide, we handle the installation. That includes pulling permits if needed, disposing of your old unit, and making sure everything is up to code. We test the new system before we leave. And if you have questions three months later, you can still call us.

We repair and replace all major brands of water heaters. If your unit is under 10 years old and the problem is fixable, we’ll repair it. If it’s older or the repair costs more than half the price of a new unit, we’ll recommend replacement.
Canova Beach sits right on the coast. That means your water heater is dealing with hard water, salty air, and higher humidity than most of the country. Those factors shorten the lifespan of tank-style heaters and cause sediment buildup faster than you’d see inland. Most traditional water heaters here last 8 to 12 years, not the 15 you might see advertised.
We also install tankless water heaters, which work well in Florida’s climate. They heat water on demand, use 20 to 30 percent less energy, and take up way less space. They cost more upfront, but they last longer—often 20 years or more—and they can cut your energy bills by around $100 a year if you go with gas, or $44 a year with electric.
We’ll help you figure out what makes sense. Some homes are better suited for tankless. Others aren’t. We’ll tell you which camp you’re in and why.
Start with age. If your water heater is over 10 years old and you’re having problems, replacement usually makes more sense than repair. At that point, even if we fix the current issue, something else is likely to fail soon.
Look for these signs: rusty water coming from your hot tap, pooling water around the base of the tank, strange noises like popping or rumbling, or water that’s not getting as hot as it used to. Rusty water and leaks around the tank mean the inside is corroding. That’s not repairable.
If your unit is newer and the issue is a faulty heating element, thermostat, or pressure relief valve, those are straightforward repairs. We’ll assess the situation and give you an honest recommendation. If it’s worth fixing, we’ll fix it. If you’re just delaying the inevitable, we’ll tell you that too.
It depends on how many people live in your house and how much hot water you use at the same time. A general rule: a 40-gallon tank works for one or two people, a 50-gallon tank handles three or four people, and anything larger than that needs a 75-gallon or bigger.
But that’s just a starting point. If you run the dishwasher and washing machine while someone’s showering, you’ll need more capacity. If you have teenagers who take long showers, same thing.
For tankless systems, we calculate based on flow rate—how many gallons per minute your household uses during peak times. We measure that by adding up the fixtures you’d run simultaneously. It’s more precise than guessing. Undersizing a water heater means you’ll run out of hot water. Oversizing wastes energy and costs you more upfront. We size it right the first time.
Most water heater replacements take three to five hours. That includes removing your old unit, installing the new one, connecting it to your existing plumbing and gas or electrical lines, and testing everything to make sure it works.
If we’re switching from electric to gas, or if we need to upgrade your venting system, it takes longer—sometimes a full day. Same goes if your current setup isn’t up to code and we need to bring things into compliance.
Tankless installations can take a bit longer because they often require new venting, upgraded gas lines, or electrical work. But we’ll tell you the timeline upfront so you’re not left guessing. And we don’t leave until your hot water is working and you understand how to operate the new system.
They can be, depending on your situation. Tankless water heaters cost more upfront—usually $1,000 to $2,000 more than a traditional tank. But they last about 20 years compared to 10 to 12 for a tank, and they use less energy because they’re not keeping 50 gallons of water hot all day.
In Florida, the warm climate works in your favor. Tankless units don’t have to work as hard to heat incoming water because the groundwater temperature is higher than it would be up north. That improves efficiency.
The downside: if you have a large household and everyone showers back-to-back in the morning, a single tankless unit might struggle to keep up unless you install a larger model or add a second unit. They also require yearly maintenance to flush out sediment, which is critical here because of hard water. If that sounds like too much hassle, a traditional tank might be the better fit. We’ll walk through the math with you.
If you have a traditional tank water heater and you lose power, the water inside will stay warm for 24 to 48 hours depending on how well the tank is insulated. That gives you access to warm water for basic needs even when the power’s out.
Tankless water heaters won’t work without electricity, even if they’re gas-powered, because they rely on electronic controls. Some models can be fitted with a battery backup, but that’s not standard.
After a storm, if your water heater was damaged by flooding or debris, don’t try to restart it yourself. Water and gas lines can be compromised, and turning it on could cause bigger problems. Call us to inspect it first. We’ll check for leaks, test the electrical components, and make sure it’s safe to operate. If it’s beyond repair, we’ll get you a replacement as quickly as possible so you’re not stuck without hot water while you’re dealing with everything else.
For a standard 40 to 50-gallon tank water heater, you’re typically looking at $950 to $1,800 installed. That includes the unit, labor, permits, and hauling away your old heater.
If you’re upgrading to a larger tank, going with a higher-efficiency model, or switching fuel types, the cost goes up. Tankless installations generally run between $2,500 and $4,500 depending on whether it’s gas or electric and what kind of modifications your home needs.
We don’t give ballpark quotes over the phone because every house is different. Your existing plumbing setup, the condition of your gas or electrical lines, local code requirements—all of that affects the final price. What we will do is come out, assess your situation, and give you a clear, written estimate before we start any work. No surprises. No hidden fees. Just a straightforward number so you can make an informed decision.
