We often use our drains without giving them a second thought. But what if we told you that putting certain liquids and solids down your drain could spell a recipe for disaster?

Turns out, there is a laundry list of items that should NEVER be put down your drain, and doing so could end up causing you serious issues down the road. From damaged pipes and seals, to clogged drains, this is one of the most common ‘house calls’ plumbers receive.

Luckily, its highly avoidable if you know what items NOT to put down your drain.

Below is a quick and easy list to remember:

  • Grease and oil
  • Fats (condensed or liquid), including butter and margarine
  • Eggshells
  • Coffee grounds
  • Pasta
  • Rice
  • Flushable kitty litter
  • Cotton balls, paper towels, and toilet paper
  • Condoms
  • Household cleaners and corrosive liquids

We also suggest installing a drain cover to prevent small objects and chunks of food from reaching your pipes. This simple and cost-effective measure could end up saving you big time.
